JUST IN: Court adjourns hearing on El-Rufai’s bail application

A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna State has adjourned the hearing of the bail application made by a former governor of Kaduna, Nasir El-Rufai.

The court presided by Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa on Tuesday, March 31, adjourned the matter to Wednesday.

Shortly after the matter at the court, El-Rufai’s counsel, Ukpong Abang (SAN) said the hearing on the bail application had been adjourned.

Abang, however, did not give details on the reason for the adjournment of the former governor’s bail application.

“I’m sorry, I can’t talk now, we are in the middle of work. I have to go and file responses. The hearing of the bail application has been adjourned till tomorrow,” Abang said.

Also, upon stepping out of the courtroom, the former governor was immediately taken away by officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in a white Toyota Hilux vehicle.

Recall that POLITICS NIGERIA had reported that El-Rufai is facing a 10-count charge of alleged mismanagement of funds and conversion of public property and money laundering.

The former governor’s appearance in court today follows his one-month detention by the ICPC.

He appeared before the court barely two days after his mother Hajiya Umma was laid to rest.

El-Rufai was earlier released by the anti-graft agency – on compassionate grounds – on  Friday, March 27, following the passing of his mother who died after a brief illness in Cairo, Egypt.

The former governor’s mother was buried in Abuja on Sunday, March 29, with several dignitaries and politicians in attendance.
