The Anambra state governor has set up an investigative committee to look into the controversy bordering on alleged forgery between the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidate, Mmesoma Ejikeme.
Politics Nigeria reports that the said committee was set up on Tuesday, July 5, after Mmesoma went to the office of the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, with her UTME result to protest that JAMB has refused to recognise her as the candidate with the highest score.
In reaction, Chuma-Udeh called on JAMB to confirm her claim but she was told that Mmesoma’s result was fake.
Sources say that it was at this point that JAMB authorities invited the Directorate of State Services to investigate the matter and make public its findings.
On his part, the commissioner for Information in Anambra, Paul Nwosu, noted that the investigation was yet to be done when JAMB went public with the matter, an act which he claims has triggered heated reactions and controversy across the state and beyond.
Nwosu was quoted to have said: “It is not our wish to join the slanging match or take sides at this stage. But as a responsible government we have decided to undertake an independent investigation into the matter.
“In the light of the above, Anambra State Government has set up a Committee of Inquiry to thoroughly investigate the JAMB/Mmesoma matter. The findings of this Committee will be made public.”
