Nigerian football sensation and Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala has earned herself a spot among the nominees for the 2023 Ballon d’Or Award.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that France Football, the organisation behind the award, took to their official Twitter account on July 7 to reveal the news.
The organisation said Oshoala’s exceptional efforts secured her a nomination in the Socrates Award category, which applauds remarkable acts of solidarity exhibited by football champions.
Along with Oshoala in this category are Vinicius Jnr (Brazil/Real Madrid), Antonio Rudiger (Germany/Real Madrid), Marcus Rashford (England/Manchester United), and Alex Morgan (USA/San Diego Wave).
Currently, Oshoala is in Australia with the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s national women’s football team, to prepare for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia.
She will help the Super Falcon’s ambition in the tournament. The Nigerian team is placed in Group B and will face Australia, Canada, and the Republic of Ireland during the group stages of the tournament.
