“Retrace Your Steps Now!” — Northern Group Warns Tinubu, INEC Ahead of 2027

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has issued a strong warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over recent political developments.
The group cautioned that current actions, if not reviewed, could put the 2027 general elections at risk.
Speaking on the situation, ACF National Publicity Secretary, T. A. Muhammad-Baba, raised concerns about decisions being taken within the electoral space.
He pointed specifically to issues surrounding the African Democratic Congress (ADC), including the reported removal of its leadership led by David Mark.
He also mentioned the proposed voter revalidation exercise being considered by INEC.
According to him, these developments are creating uncertainty within the political environment. He warned that such moves could weaken public trust in the electoral process and cast doubts over the credibility of future elections.
Muhammad-Baba did not hold back in his remarks. He stressed that the situation, if left unchecked, may trigger avoidable tension across the country. He urged authorities to act with caution and remain committed to democratic principles.
“It looks like every step taken by INEC or the political authorities is putting the 2027 election into jeopardy. It is not too late, and we hope we call on the government, we call on INEC, we call on all those concerned to retrace their steps and stand by the principles and the tenets of democracy.
“Otherwise, all these things really portend a crisis, and it is not good for the country. We have enough. We have enough problems with insecurity. We have enough problems with economic hardships,” Muhammad-Baba said.
He added that Nigeria is already dealing with serious security challenges and rising economic pressure. Bringing political instability into the mix, he warned, could worsen the situation for citizens.
The ACF spokesman called on all stakeholders, including the federal government and electoral authorities, to ensure that every decision strengthens democratic institutions rather than weakens them.
He insisted that transparency, fairness, and strict adherence to the rule of law must guide all electoral processes moving forward.
Furthermore, He noted that any action perceived as politically motivated could deepen divisions and reduce confidence in governance ahead of 2027.
