The Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, has said that the Minna-Bida Road would be temporarily closed for urgent rehabilitation on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, from noon until 6 pm.
Bago, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, said that the recurring collapse of multiple cell culverts at chainage 62km from Minna had plagued the road for about ten years.
He explained that the annual occurrence during the rainy season causes significant hardship for motorists, often leading to road closures lasting a week or more for emergency repairs.
According to Bago, the road’s closure would address the annual culvert collapse and prevent further incidents during the rainy season.
He said that during the designated closure hours, skilled engineers would be diligently working to reinstate the failed section of the road.
The governor called for the understanding of the public to either await the completion of the repairs or utilize alternate routes to minimize disruption of the work on the road.
The alternative routes to be used include the Bida-Zungeru-Minna Road and the Bida-Lapai-Minna Road.
