The government of Abia has reacted to report circulating that it had sacked medical doctors on the state payroll.
The state’s commissioner for health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, who debunked the report, described it as unfounded and deliberately “planted” by mischievous elements intending to discredit the government.
Dr Okoronkwo reiterated the government’s stand during the flag-off of the free medical services of the Ministry at Aba General Hospital.
“The era of owing health workers their entitlements were long gone as the governor has prioritised prompt payments of salaries and allowances of the workers,” she said.
The Commissioner said that Governor Alex Otti was not contemplating sacking any medical doctor or personnel in the state public service.
She stressed that the purported sack of doctors only took place in the imagination of those peddling the falsehood to the public.
The commissioner urged doctors and members of the general public to ignore the rumour and support the several initiatives of the government to drive holistic healthcare delivery in Abia.
