JUST IN: APC NWC to Meet with State Governors

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will meet with members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) today in a bid to get their support after the recent resignation of the party’s National Chairman and Secretary.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the meeting, scheduled for the NWC Hall of the Muhammadu Buhari House in Abuja, is expected to discuss the way forward for the party following the leadership shakeup.

The NWC is also expected to seek the input of the PGF in setting a new direction for the party ahead of the postponed National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings.

The meeting comes just two days after Senator Abubakar Kyari took over as acting National Chairman and Barrister Festus Fuanter as acting Secretary of the party.

The NWC, at its Monday meeting, resolved to reach out to critical stakeholders, given the development in the party, to seek their input in setting a new direction ahead of the postponed National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings of the party.

This newspaper learnt that the new leadership of the committee is also pushing for a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was on an official trip to Kenya when the change of leadership was effected.

A member of the NWC who confirmed the meeting to The Nation said, “Today’s meeting with the governors is part of our plans to fully engage various segments and critical stakeholders of the party for their inputs in fashioning the way forward.”

“I can tell you that the meeting is to hold later today (Wednesday). The decision to that was taken on Monday and the acting National Chairman is to drive the consultation with the leadership of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) for the meeting.”

When asked if the new leadership of the NWC has met with President Tinubu, the source said, “I am not aware they have met with the President. I think it is still being worked out. Remember, the President returned from Kenya on Monday evening. I am sure the acting Chairman is on top of that and we are sure, he will inform the committee as soon as he meets with the President.”
