Ejikeme Mmesoma, the 2023 UTME candidate accused of forging her result, has apologised to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Mmesoma, a student of Anglican Girls Secondary School in Nnewi, Anambra state, made the apology on Wednesday, when she appeared before an ad hoc committee of the House of Representatives investigating the alleged forgery.

In her apology, Mmesoma said she was “deeply sorry” for her actions and that she “felt a debt of pain” for letting down JAMB and the Nigerian people.

She also pleaded for leniency for the ban that has been imposed on her.

Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB registrar, and top directors of the board also appeared before the committee.

Mmesoma was celebrated in May after she was reported to have scored 362 in the 2023 UTME. However, JAMB later declared that she actually scored 249, and that she had faked her results.

An Anambra committee tasked with investigating the controversy later reported that Mmesoma had admitted to faking her results.

The committee also said that she was expected to tender a written apology to JAMB, the Anglican Girls Secondary, and the Anambra state government.

Recall that the automobile businessman, Innocent Chukwuma had awarded Mmesoma a scholarship worth N3 million. However, he said he would be withdrawing the scholarship in light of the revelations.
