APC laments havoc wrecked by Akure explosion

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State said it was saddened by the effect of the explosion around Eleyowo community in Akure North Local Government area.

The incident occurred around 1:00am Ilu Abo, in Akure North Local Government Area.

This paper gathered that, while some buildings and edifices were destroyed, 13 persons sustained varying degrees of injuries and no deaths have been officially reported.

According to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, the explosion was caused by a vehicle carrying explosives.

He said that the vehicle was transporting explosives to a storage facility in a neighbouring state when it developed fault along the Akure-Owo road.

The party, in a statement issued by Alex Kalejaye, the Ondo APC Publicity Secretary, it sympathised with the victims of the deadly circumstance, the State Government and entire people of the Ondo State.

The party also commended the quick response of the government and the security agencies to allay the fears of the people, and seek an alternative route to the damaged portion of the ever-busy Akure/Owo Road.

The party said: “We call on companies and individuals to be more circumspect in taking precautions when moving items that are capable of unleashing devastating consequences on people when handled carelessly.

“While wishing those that were injured a speedy recovery, we emphasize the need for Federal authorities to expedite action on the rebuild of the Akure/Owo, as well as lend support to those whose property were destroyed.”
