IGP Orders Officers in Viral Stop-and-Search Video To Police Headquarters

The new Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered the transfer of officers captured in a viral “stop-and-search” video to the Force Headquarters in Abuja to face disciplinary actions.
The directive follows widespread public outrage over footage showing police officers allegedly harassing civilians during a roadside stop-and-search operation in Lagos.
A video capturing some police officers stopping a vehicle and ordering the occupants to step out, and taking them to another position to search their bags.
The video was posted on Saturday by an X user identified as @ChuksEricE, who claimed a young man shared a video of his encounter with some police officers in Lagos State.
In the video seen by Politics Nigeria, a voice behind the camera remarks, “I have never seen a police officer carry a driver to one side to search him away from where his car is parked on the road.”
In an update late Saturday, the Police Complaint platform on X disclosed that the IGP has directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) attached to the Satellite Divisional Headquarters in the state to bring the police officers identified in the video to Abuja on Wednesday for necessary actions.
The statement reads, “UPDATE: The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (÷), NPM @TunjiDisu1 has directed that the DPO Satellite town in Lagos to bring the policemen involved to Abuja on Wednesday, 8th April, 2026, for disciplinary action. #NoToImpunity”
