A fence collapsed on a house in Ikorodu, Lagos State, on Saturday, killing two children.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the victims were identified as Gbolahan and Olayinka Atolagbe, aged 10 and 8, respectively. They were trapped under the debris for several hours before they were rescued and pronounced dead at a hospital.
This newspaper learnt that the fence is part of a neighbouring building.
The incident occurred during a downpour on Alao Street, Isawo, in the Ikorodu Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency, South-West, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident in a statement to newsmen.
According to him, the incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m.
“It was very unfortunate that no distress call was properly channeled to those whose responsibility it is to save lives at the right time.
“Officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) are currently on ground to assess the situation.
“May the Almighty forgive the deceased and console their parents,” Mr Farinloye said.
