An Army General has shed light on an anti-insurgency operation carried out by the Nigerian military against Boko Haram in the north-east recently.
The military officer, who identified himself as ‘General Adeniyi’ in footage sourced from Sahara Reporters, revealed that soldiers came under heavy attack as insurgents battled them with 15 gun trucks from different flanks.
“We have been met with very strong resistance from Boko Haram since yesterday. They are more than pockets of insurgents. Today morning, and from every flank, not less than 15 gun trunks faced us.”
“The Boko Haram terrorists fired more than 100 RPGs and mortars on us. Yet, we are not running or fleeing from them. Me and other generals are on the ground. We are good to go. But this is the true situation of things,” he said.
POLITICS NIGERIA analyzed the footage which shows several Nigerian soldiers injured and being administered first aid by medics, with Gen. Adeniyi motioning to the Cameraman to focus on him.
He further stated that the attacks were successfully repelled but they experienced ‘casualties’. He also stated that none of the soldiers or Generals has ‘run away’, adding that they are still on the battlefield.
However, Security sources reveal that the attack may have occurred in Borno State around Wednesday last week. Gen. Olusegun Adeniyi is a major-general and theatre commander of ‘Operation Lafiya Dole’.
