Obidient Movement Accuses INEC and APC of Plot to Block Peter Obi in 2027 Election

The Obidient Movement has raised alarm over what it described as a coordinated effort by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to frustrate the political future of Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The group claimed that recent developments surrounding the African Democratic Congress (ADC) were not ordinary political events but part of a wider plan to deny Obi a viable platform to contest.
It warned that such actions could weaken Nigeria’s democratic system if not addressed.
Speaking with journalists, the National Coordinator of the movement, Yunusa Tanko, alleged that the delisting of the ADC by INEC was carefully designed to disrupt Obi’s political pathway.
He said the situation goes beyond party politics and touches on the credibility of the country’s electoral process.
“This underhanded plan has been in motion since the 2023 election, deliberately injecting crises into Obi’s former party, the Labour Party, to prevent him from securing a foothold.
“Despite Obi’s relentless efforts to restore peace, government infiltrators aided by a compromised judiciary consistently thwarted these attempts.
“After aligning with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and bringing renewed energy to the party, the ruling party escalated its sabotage, pursuing legislative changes that led to a damaging amendment to the Electoral Act, explicitly designed to pressure the ADC and undermine Obi’s presidential ambitions.
“Obi’s visit on March 22, 2026, to former Kano Governor and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, where he was warmly received by Kwankwasiyya members, only intensified the ruling party’s hostility.
“The tipping point came at the ADC’s massive rally in Kano on March 30, 2026, where Kwankwaso officially joined the ADC.
“In a desperate move, the government manipulated INEC to reinterpret an Appeal Court ruling, leading to the delisting of the ADC’s leadership,” he said.
Tanko stressed that the alleged moves were a direct threat to opposition politics in Nigeria. He added that any attempt to sideline credible candidates through institutional control could damage public trust in future elections.
He also called on Nigerians, civil society groups, and the international community to closely monitor political developments ahead of 2027. According to him, safeguarding democratic principles must remain a priority for all stakeholders.
The Obidient Movement maintained that Peter Obi remains a strong political force despite the challenges. It insisted that efforts to weaken opposition voices would not stop the growing support base around the former presidential candidate.
As of the time of filing this report, neither INEC nor the APC had issued an official response to the allegations.
