2027: APC Forum Endorses Tinubu, Fubara for Second Term

A political support group within the ruling party has thrown its weight behind President Bola Tinubu and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara ahead of the 2027 elections.

The group, known as the APC Forum for Good Governance and Continuity, made its position public during a press briefing held in Abuja.

At the event, the forum said its decision followed what it described as a careful review of the performance of both leaders since they assumed office.

It noted that its findings were based on what it called an “evidence-based assessment” of governance at both federal and state levels.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Chief Henry Awolabi, who serves as the National Coordinator, pointed to several economic decisions taken by the Tinubu administration.

He said policies such as the removal of fuel subsidy, unification of the foreign exchange system, and ongoing tax reforms have started to reshape the country’s economic direction.

Awolabi explained that these measures, though difficult at the beginning, have laid the foundation for long-term stability. He stated that the administration met a fragile economy in 2023 but has since taken steps aimed at correcting structural imbalances.

“When President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office in 2023, Nigeria stood at the edge of a fiscal precipice. With clarity of purpose and uncommon political will, this administration embarked on what can only be described as a bold and historic reform agenda,” he said.

He further stressed that the removal of fuel subsidies marked a turning point in government spending and fiscal discipline. According to him, subsequent reforms in both monetary and fiscal sectors have helped to improve Nigeria’s global standing and attract renewed investor interest.

The forum also claimed that key economic indicators have shown signs of improvement. It said the country recorded steady GDP growth, improved exchange rate conditions, and a gradual easing of inflationary pressures towards the end of 2025. It added that foreign reserves have risen, while non-oil revenue has increased significantly.

Despite acknowledging that the reforms came with hardship for many Nigerians, the group insisted that such challenges are part of the transition process. It maintained that lasting national progress often requires tough and sometimes unpopular decisions.

Turning to Rivers State, the forum praised Governor Siminalayi Fubara for what it described as steady leadership in a tense political environment. It said the governor has managed to restore calm while continuing to push development projects across the state.

Awolabi highlighted ongoing infrastructure works, especially road projects designed to improve connectivity and boost economic activities. He also mentioned efforts to revive abandoned projects and strengthen the healthcare system through targeted reforms in general hospitals.

“In Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has demonstrated leadership by navigating intense political turbulence and restoring stability while focusing on infrastructure expansion, including critical road projects that connect communities and stimulate commerce,” he said.

The forum added that Fubara’s administration has shown commitment to agriculture as part of plans to diversify the state’s economy. It noted that these efforts are aimed at improving food production and reducing dependence on oil revenue.

It also commended the governor’s approach to political challenges, describing his conduct as measured and focused on governance rather than confrontation.

While announcing its endorsement, the group warned against policy inconsistency, stating that Nigeria is currently undergoing a major structural transition. It argued that continuity in leadership would help consolidate ongoing reforms and prevent setbacks.

“We unequivocally endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office. We do so because he has demonstrated the courage to take difficult decisions, the discipline to implement reforms, and the vision to reposition Nigeria for greatness.

“We also unequivocally endorse Governor Siminalayi Fubara for a second term as Governor of Rivers State. We do so because he has shown resilience in crisis, commitment to development, and capacity to lead with purpose,” the APC Forum said.
