BREAKING: Violence Erupts at Enugu Protest, Two Shot Dead [PHOTOS/VIDEO]

A peaceful protest against the closure of businesses by the Enugu State government has turned violent as two protesters has reportedly been shot dead.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the protest was organised by traders in the Ogbete Market, who were angry that the government had sealed their businesses for not opening on Monday, which is a regular sit-at-home day imposed by a faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The government had recently given conditions the affected traders must meet before their shops would be reopened, but the traders were protesting the sealing of their businesses, saying that they were not IPOB members and should not be punished for the actions of others.

The protest began peacefully, but it turned violent with non-state actors taking over it.

Two protesters have reportedly been shot dead, and several others are said to be injured.
