Senator Iyabo Obasanjo Meets Tinubu Ahead of 2027 Ogun Governorship Election

Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and an aspirant for the governorship of Ogun State under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has formally briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on her plans to run for the state’s top office.

The discussion took place during a private meeting at the President’s Lagos residence, where Obasanjo outlined her vision for Ogun State, detailing her priorities for governance, development, and public service if elected.

Sources familiar with the meeting said the conversation focused on her governorship ambition, as well as her long-standing relationship with President Tinubu, which she described as one built on years of political engagement and mutual respect, shaping her approach to leadership.

Obasanjo remarked, “On Monday in Lagos, I had the privilege of meeting His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and our conversation was insightful and forward-looking, focusing on leadership, governance and the ongoing development of our nation and Ogun State.”

During the meeting, she reaffirmed her loyalty to the APC and pledged to mobilise support for President Tinubu ahead of the next general election.

Observers view the meeting as part of broader political consultations and alignments in preparation for future electoral contests in both Ogun State and at the national level.
