The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and her sister agencies in Kano state, during the ongoing nationwide protest, vehemently rejected government palliatives and called for the urgent return of subsidy on petroleum products.
The protestants who converged as early as 7:00 am at the state library along Ahmadu Bello Way flagged several anti-government placards with inscriptions, also witnessed several union leaders who spoke against President Tinubu’s administrative policies.
Representative of NLC president Dr Muntaka Yusahu accused President Tinubu of operating under the influence of International Monetary Funds (IMF), weakening the nation’s economy.
Dr Yusahu, who lamented the poor income of workers, hike in tuition fees and high cost of living in the country due to the removal of fuel subsidy, kicked against what he described as imperialism agenda in Nigeria.
While presenting the labour message to the Kano government, the state chairman of NLC, Comrade Kabiru Inuwa, raised concern over the Federal government’s failure to fulfil his campaign promises.
Inuwa lamented the impact of the subsidy removal is biting harder in Kano because of the population, calling for urgent measures to ease the pains.
“We are on peaceful protest as directed by the mother body of the union to register the displeasure of Nigerians on anti-masses policies of the federal government, especially the removal of fuel subsidy,” Inuwa said.
Meanwhile, the secretary to the state Government, Dr Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, said the state government has no industrious disharmony with the labour just as he pledged to pursue the goals and welfare of workers within the limited resources.
While applauding their protest’s peaceful conduct, he promised to deliver their protest message to the federal government.
