Police Break Silence on Arrest of 488 Boko Haram Terrorists in Abia State

The Abia State Police Command has reacted to reports claiming that 488 suspected Boko Haram terrorists were arrested in the state.

The Command said the information is not true and urged residents to ignore it.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the police described the viral claim as false and misleading.

The Command said the report was created to cause panic and disturb public peace across the state.

The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka. She explained that the video being shared online is not recent.

According to her, the footage is an old broadcast that has been in circulation for over 11 years and has no link to the present security situation in Abia.

She stressed that there was no such arrest of Boko Haram suspects in the state. She added that security agencies in Abia remain alert and fully in control of the situation.

The Command called on residents to remain calm and continue their normal daily activities without fear. It assured the public that it remains committed to protecting lives and property across the state.

The police also warned against the spread of false information, especially on social media platforms.

According to the statement, sharing unverified reports can create unnecessary tension and confusion among the public.

“The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, warns against the dissemination of false information intended to cause fear or civil unrest.

“Any individual found culpable will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with Section 59 of the Criminal Code Act and the Cybercrime (Prohibition/Prevention) Act,” the police warned.

Residents were further advised to rely only on credible news sources and official channels for information. The Command said anyone found spreading fake news would face legal consequences.
