JUST IN: ADC submits petition to INEC after protests

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has submitted a petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after its protests this morning.
The petition was submitted on Wednesday by Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, national secretary of the opposition party.
Abdullahi Zuru, national commissioner of INEC, received the petition on behalf of the electoral commission.
The protest was led by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president; Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano; and Mr Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra. Senator David Mark, national chairman of the party, was also present.
Other leaders at the protest included Senator Aminu Tambuwal, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, former minister of transportation; and Senator Dino Melaye.
Protesters marched from Maitama junction to the INEC headquarters carrying placards and banners.
Some of the inscriptions read: “Tinubu, let our Democracy breathe”, “Falle daya ce, one term president” and “I stand with ADC, I stand with Democracy”.
INEC recently suspended recognition of the party following a ruling by the Court of Appeal which directed parties in the suit at the Federal High Court, including INEC, to maintain the status quo ante bellum pending the resolution of the leadership dispute.
The dispute arose after one Nafiu Bala challenged the emergence of Mark as national chairman following the resignation of Ralph Nwosu.
