Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala dismissed a statement falsely attributed to her, claiming she had received threats after meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja on Tuesday.
In a statement by her Media Adviser, Paul Nwabuikwu, Okonjo-Iweala said, “The statement is false. The viral false statement claimed that Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala had raised an alarm over receiving threats after her visit to Tinubu.”
The purported statement read:
“I keep receiving toxic calls and messages regarding my meeting with the president yesterday and from those I hold in very high esteem.
“Honestly, I am shocked at the contents of the messages and the tone of the callers. Has Nigeria sunk this low? A visit I made for the good of our dear nation is what they are using to threaten my life and family!”
Tuesday’s visit to the president, according to Okonjo-Iweala, was unofficial and not in her capacity as the Director-General of the WTO.
