“APC is the first victim of Tinubu’s one-party system” – SDP chieftain Adebayo

The 2023 presidential candidate for Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo has described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as the first victim of the alleged one-party system being championed by the current administration.

Adebayo while appearing as a guest on Channels Television on Thursday said what Nigeria is witnessing under the President Bola Tinubu-led government is not just a one-party system but a one-man rule.

According to the SDP Chieftain, the president’s approach and style of leadership would not only damage the opposition but also members of the ruling party.

His words, “In my own candid observation and following the evidence, Nigeria is not going towards a one-party state.

“What we have is that Nigeria is at the risk of one-man rule and if anybody is in APC, who thinks that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is trying to help APC to become the dominant party and have a one-party state; that’s not the agenda. The agenda is to have a one-man rule,” Adebayo said.

He further warned that politicians who are members of the ruling party may be forced to get used to working under an authoritarian who only decides what can be done in government or within their party.

“The first victims of this one-man rule are even the APC itself, because they are inside there and are getting used to having zero internal democracy. They are getting used to being dictated to by their leader who is the president now.

“So, they are not that much of a robust political party like the ANC or other political parties you find in Africa, where there are internal processes and the people in the party are stronger than those who are in government with the leadership of the party in charge of the performance of government and measurement and supervision of the government.

“So, APC is the first victim. So, if they are sitting pretty and thinking it’s going to be a one-party state, it’s not gonna be a one-party state. It’s going to be a one-man rule and the APC would not be able to function,” Adebayo said.
