FG assures Nigerians of delivering credible national census

The Federal Government of Nigeria has assured citizens that it would deliver a credible and transparent national census that would meet global standards.

This assurance was handed to Nigerians by Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation during a meeting with the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Aminu Yusuf.

Idris said the Nigerian government is making efforts to ensure that the long-awaited national census is anchored through an effective and strategic communication process and inter-agency partnership.

According to the Minister, transparency and credibility remain the benchmark for effective national planning and development.

He stated that development becomes impossible where data and the needed population figures are inaccurate.

Idris also assured that President Bola Tinubu through the Renewed Hope Agenda has aligned with all the requirements needed for the next national census to meet global standards.

He further urged the NPC chairman to make efforts towards ensuring that the commission leverages on government-owned media to engage the public on the benefits of the exercise.

Also speaking Yusuf promised that the NPC will continue to support government initiatives and programmes through operationally ready, with systems, logistics, ICT infrastructure among others.

He appreciated the minister for his ministry’s leadership role in public mobilisation efforts ahead of the postponed census.
