Ganduje: APC working on merger with opposition parties ahead of 2027

National chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, says the ruling party is considering a merger with opposition parties in the country.

Speaking to reporters at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, Ganduje expressed his intention to develop a blueprint to accomplish this goal.

According to the former Kano state governor, the move would improve APC’s chances at the polls especially in 2027.

“We are coming out with a new blueprint to increase followership. This will include all strata of officials; those who are in APC and those who are in other political parties,” Ganduje said.

“I assure you, very soon, some of the political parties will even merge with the APC. We are doing that underground,” Ganduje announced.

He also gave insight into his deliberations with minister-designate, Nyesom Wike, when the former Rivers State governor visited his Abuja residence, earlier in the week.

The visit by Wike, a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had fuelled speculations that the former governor was about to jump ship.

He said: “You know, Wike is an honourable minister-designate. He came, we discussed because I was looking for him, to congratulate him for that.  And also, he came to congratulate me.

“We discussed that when he becomes minister fully, he will work very hard to move forward the ministry he would be given, and he is ready to cooperate. But we didn’t discuss the issue of his coming to APC or not coming to APC. That issue will arise later.”
