Senator John Enoh, the recently inaugurated Minister of Sports, has confirmed that he will work from the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja instead of the federal secretariat.
Enoh revealed this information after inspecting Packages A and B of the National Stadium on Wednesday.
He said when he assumed office, they took him to the national stadium; hence, he had no choice but to operate from there instead of the Federal Secretariat, where the past ministers worked.
He said, “When I was asked where I will operate from, I said it is the national stadium. I don’t have any business going to the federal secretariat. I have directed the permanent secretary that every other department of sports should relocate to the stadium.
“The permanent secretary is already working to allocate offices to those departments that are not here. This ministry is a ministry; I need to be where the action is, where the athletes are, where football is taking place, even for coordination purposes.
“Most departments are already here, so there is no point to stay at the federal secretariat.”
He added, “In the past, ministers used to work from the federal secretariat, which resulted in neglect of the stadium facilities, such as the generators. The stadium was also infested with reptiles due to the abandonment and failure to maintain the grass”.
