JUST IN: IGP Disu Grants Two-Week Break for Officers Involved in Police Day

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved a two-week break for officers and men who took part in the 2026 National Police Day parade.
Politics Nigeria reports that the directive was conveyed through an official police wireless message from the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The message, which was sent from the Inspector-General of Police Secretariat, confirmed that the break applies strictly to personnel who participated in the nationwide parade.
The development comes shortly after the successful conclusion of this year’s Police Day activities.
According to the internal signal, the communication was circulated to several top formations and units across the country. These include the Nigeria Police Force Signals unit, the Force Criminal Investigation Department, the ICT department, Federal Operations, Commissioners of Police in different states, the National Command and Control Centre, and Mobile Police units.
The Department of Operations, Abuja, also received the message for record and coordination purposes. The signal was widely distributed to ensure full compliance across commands.
Part of the directive reads: “GRATEFUL BE INFORMED THAT X INGENPOL HAS GRACIOUSLY APPROVED X TWO WEEKS BREAK X FOR ALL OFFICERS AND MEN X INVOLVED IN THE JUST CONCLUDED 2026 POLICE DAY PARADE.”
The approval followed what authorities described as a well-coordinated and successful outing during the National Police Day parade. The event usually involves large-scale deployment of officers from different units, requiring weeks of preparation, rehearsals, and operational coordination.
Police sources say the break is meant to allow affected officers to rest after the demanding exercise. It is also seen as a morale-boosting step by the leadership of the Force.
The National Police Day parade is held annually. It brings together personnel from various commands and specialised units of the Nigeria Police Force. The event is used to showcase discipline, unity, and operational readiness of the Force.
Implementation of the directive is expected to begin immediately. All commands and units listed in the wireless message have been instructed to ensure that only eligible officers benefit from the break, in line with the directive from the Force Headquarters.
