An infighting broke out between Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) on Wednesday in the North East of Borno State, Nigeria.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the clash left over 40 fighters and commanders from both groups dead.
The fighting took place in the axis of Duguri in Kukawa Local Government Area. ISWAP terrorists, who came on several canoes, attacked the Bakoura Buduma-led faction of Boko Haram.
This publication learnt the bloody encounter lasted for several hours and left 41 fighters dead on both sides, including several commanders. ISWAP was said to have dealt a heavy blow on Boko Haram, killing many of their commanders.
Some of the Boko Haram commanders who were killed include Modu Kayi, Abbah Musa, Isa Muhammed, Ibrahim Ali, Kanai Zakariya, Bula Salam, Isuhu Alhaji Umaru, Dogo Salman, and Abdulrahman Malam Musa.
Clashes between Boko Haram and ISWAP have become common and intense recently. The two groups are reportedly fighting for control of territory in Borno State and the Lake Chad region. Reports have it that the ISWAP is now superior in the conflict following the defection of Abou Idris, a former chief of operation of Boko Haram.
