BREAKING: Wike’s Faction Takes Over PDP National Secretariat in Abuja

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Nyesom Wike has taken over the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

This follows the reopening of the premises by the Nigeria Police Force after months of closure due to internal disputes.

The development was confirmed on Saturday by the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Abdulrahman Mohammed.

In a statement issued through the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, the leadership warned against any act that could disrupt activities at the secretariat or threaten peace.

The crisis within the PDP had lingered for months. It reached a boiling point on November 18 at the party’s headquarters, Wadata Plaza in Abuja. On that day, two rival factions of the NWC clashed openly. One group was led by Tanimu Turaki and backed by Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed. The other faction was aligned with Wike and led by Abdulrahman Mohammed.

The internal struggle created confusion within the party. Activities at the secretariat were disrupted. At some point, the premises were sealed, deepening the crisis and dividing party members across the country.

However, the situation began to change after a ruling by the Court of Appeal on March 9. The court resolved the leadership dispute in favour of the Wike-backed camp. It also nullified the Ibadan convention held on November 16, which had the support of some governors.

Following the judgment, the police moved in to enforce the court order. The party’s National Secretariat at Wadata Plaza and Legacy House in Maitama were unsealed and handed over to the Mohammed-led leadership.

In its statement, the NWC expressed satisfaction with the role played by the police. It described the action as professional and in line with the rule of law. The party said the move showed respect for constitutional order and due process.

“The National Working Committee of the Peoples’ Democratic Party hereby informs all members and the general public that the Party’s National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, as well as The Legacy House, Maitama, have been unsealed by the Nigeria Police Force and handed over to the National Chairman, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara, and Senator Samuel Anyawu, National Secretary, in full compliance with duly issued court orders.

“The Party commends the Nigeria Police Force for its professionalism and adherence to the rule of law. This action is a clear demonstration of respect for constitutional order and due process.

“The Party strongly warns that it will not condone any act capable of causing obstruction, disruption, or breach of peace at the secretariat again. All individuals and groups are advised to conduct themselves within the bounds of the law, as security agencies have been duly alerted to take necessary action against violators.

“This positive development reassures members that the recent challenges confronting the Party have been effectively resolved. We therefore call on all aggrieved members to sheath their swords and embrace unity in the collective interest of the Party.”

The leadership also used the opportunity to appreciate key figures who stood by the faction during the crisis. It gave special recognition to Wike, describing his role as crucial to the outcome.

“The Party also expresses its profound appreciation to our leaders and stakeholders for their steadfast support during this period. In particular, we acknowledge the guidance and commitment of our National Leader, His Excellency, Chief Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, the Honourable Minister of the FCT, whose support has been invaluable.

“Together, we move forward, stronger, united, and more committed to our shared vision.”
