Bashir Ahmad, an aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, has shared his thoughts on how political stability can be achieved on the African continent.
According to Ahmad, there would be political stability if the leaders could embrace dialogue, diplomacy, and unity.
Ahmad’s advice to African leaders comes against the backdrop of the recent coup in Gabon which ousted its president, Ali Bongo.
The Gabonese army officers highlighted institutional, political, economic, and social crises as factors responsible for the coup.
Expressing his opinion on X, formerly known as Twitter, Ahmad insisted that political leaders can pave the way for a brighter future in Africa if they address the root cause of political instability.
Ahmad wrote: “By embracing dialogue, diplomacy, and unity our leaders and citizens can collectively address the root causes of political instability in Africa and pave the way for a brighter future.”
Meanwhile, Ahmad has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not be intervening in the political crisis in Gabon like the case of Niger Republic.
According to him, Gabon is not part of ECOWAS but a member of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS); hence, Nigeria will not intervene in the crisis.
He tweeted: “Calm down. Gabon is not part of ECOWAS; the country is a member of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS). So Nigeria, which is a leader of the ECOWAS, will not be intervening in the political crisis in Gabon, regionally.”
