Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, have announced their plans to challenge the judgments of the Presidential Election Tribunal at the Supreme Court.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the two candidates made their decisions public on Wednesday, shortly after the tribunal dismissed their petitions challenging the victory of Bola Tinubu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the 2023 presidential election.
Atiku’s lawyer, Chief Chris Uche, SAN, said that the former vice president has directed that an appeal against the decision be filed immediately. He told journalists that Atiku got judgment at the tribunal but did not get justice, hence, his decision to go on appeal.
Similarly, Livy Uzoukwu, SAN, the lead counsel to Obi, confirmed that his client had directed that the judgment be challenged at the Supreme Court. He wondered why the tribunal, which ruled against live telecast of proceedings, suddenly allowed live coverage of the judgment.
The Tribunal promised to provide copies of the judgment to the parties to enable them to proceed on their appeal to the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court is the highest court in the country, and its decisions are final.
