Oyo Assembly Chief Whip Breaks Silence on Alleged Plot to Impeach Gov Makinde

The Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Gbenga Oyekola, has denied involvement in an alleged plan to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde.

His reaction comes amid growing rumours of a possible plot within the Assembly to remove the governor.

Oyekola, who represents Atiba State Constituency, addressed the issue on Tuesday through a statement posted on his verified Facebook page. He made it clear that he was not part of any meeting or arrangement linked to impeachment moves.

The lawmaker, elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said there are ongoing efforts by certain individuals to create division within the House.

He warned that such actions could damage the working relationship between the legislature and the state government.

He said “I, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, hereby completely disassociate myself from any arrangement or activity that has the potential to disrupt the peace of Oyo State. I was never invited, never consulted, and was not part of any such meetings or arrangements.

“I cannot and will not be disloyal to my boss, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde.

“I reaffirm my unwavering loyalty and support for Governor Seyi Makinde, his government, and his party. I remain firmly committed to the peace, unity, and continued progress of Oyo State”.

Oyekola stressed that maintaining stability in Oyo State remains a priority for him and other responsible lawmakers. He noted that any attempt to destabilise the state would not only affect governance but also slow down ongoing development efforts under the current administration.
