JUST IN: Obasanjo’s Daughter Withdraws From Ogun 2027 Governorship Race

Daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Iyabo Obasanjo has stepped down from the Ogun State 2027 governorship race.

Her withdrawal comes shortly after the All Progressives Congress (APC) settled for Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its consensus candidate.

The former aspirant made her decision public in a statement issued on Monday night. She explained that the move followed the outcome of a key party meeting held in Abeokuta, where Adeola was adopted by party leaders.

Iyabo Obasanjo, who is the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, had been in the race for the APC ticket before the party leadership aligned behind a single candidate.

In her statement, she said:
“I congratulate him and wish him every success. I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process.

“Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration.

“To my supporters across Ogun State, I am deeply grateful for your calm, steadfast support and unwavering trust throughout this journey. Together, we move forward with patience, strength and hope.”

Her withdrawal is seen as a major development within the Ogun APC, as it clears the path for Senator Adeola ahead of the party’s primaries and preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Adeola, who currently represents Ogun West in the Senate, was endorsed during a caucus meeting at the APC secretariat in Abeokuta, Politics Nigeria reports.
