The Plateau National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Jos has declared Barrister Simon Lalong, the immediate past Governor of Plateau State, as the winner of the Plateau South Senatorial Zone Election.
The announcement comes after a contested electoral battle that saw legal proceedings following the initial poll.
The tribunal’s decision, which was eagerly awaited by political observers and residents of Plateau State, affirms Lalong as the representative of the Plateau South Senatorial Zone in the Nigerian National Assembly.
The Plateau South Senatorial Zone election had been marked by intense competition, with candidates from various political parties vying for the highly sought-after seat.
The matter was brought before the tribunal by Lalong, which has now rendered its verdict.
Lalong, a former Speaker of the Plateau state House of Assembly, is currently the minister of labour and productivity.
