Following President Bola Tinubu’s approval, Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso is to serve as the new governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for a term of five (5) years at the first instance, pending his confirmation by the Senate.
The following is the profile of Cardoso who will replace Godwin Emefiele, the suspended CBN boss still is in DSS custody:
Cardoso, among other designations, is a banker, chartered stockbroker, and public policymaker, having served as the chairman of Citibank Nigeria and the commissioner for Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget.
He studied Managerial and Administrative Studies at Aston University, and there bagged a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree.
Cardoso also obtained a Master’s degree from the Harvard Kennedy School in Public Administration.
The new acting CBN governor was a member of the Cities Alliance’s Africa Think Tank Group, served as a board member of MRS Oil, and was the chairman of the board of EFinA.
Even more, he is a member of the advisory board of Lagos Business School and chairman of the board of the African Venture Philanthropy Alliance.
He is the founding chairman and co-chair of Ehingbeti Summit, the Lagos state economic summit.
Cardoso is also a former executive lead at the Harvard Kennedy School Alumni Association.
