Nigerian billionaire and oil magnate Femi Otedola has called out some persons and organizations who are yet to fulfill their donations to the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
POLITICS NIGERIA understands that about nineteen billion naira has been realised from the private sector.
It was also gathered that Africa’s richest, Aliko Dangote and Otedola pledged the sum of one billion naira each, which they have fulfilled.
In a statement published by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) last Friday, the apex bank noted that Mike Adenuga, the Chief Executive Officer of Globacom, Lafarge plc, MTN Nigeria and John Coumatantous of Flour mill PLC are yet to pay.
In the statement signed by the CBN Director of Communications, Isaac Okorafor, the sum of 3.4 billion naira is yet to be redeemed.
Meanwhile, in a social media post of Monday, Mr Otedola advised Adenuga, MTN, as well as cement company, Lafarge, to redeem their pledges of N1bn each.
He wrote; “Not yet redeemed! Let our word be our bond, and redeem pledges to the Coalition Against COVID-19.
“The Central Bank of Nigeria at the close of business on Friday, April 3, 2020, listed a few donors yet to redeem their pledges. I encourage them to fast-track this intervention to save lives during this pandemic. Every life counts! …F.Ote,” he added via his verified Instagram account.
Nonetheless, Nigeria has so far recorded 232 COVID-19 cases across 13 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
