Wike-Backed PDP Faction Speaks on Merger With ADC Ahead of 2027 Elections

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has rejected talks of any merger with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the inaugural meeting of the faction’s National Working Committee held at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza in Abuja, the factional National Chairman, Abdulrahman Muhammed, dismissed the idea of any coalition arrangement involving the PDP and ADC.
He said the faction remains committed to preserving the identity and structure of the party. He warned that any attempt by individuals or groups to drag the PDP into such alliances without proper authority would be resisted.
“The PDP will take all necessary legal steps to address any conduct that borders on contempt of court or misrepresentation, in accordance with extant laws,” he said.
Muhammed explained that while members of the party are free to express their views, such freedom must not be used to undermine the party or create confusion in the public space. He stressed that the leadership would not allow actions capable of damaging the party’s reputation or violating existing legal processes.
The development comes at a time when reports emerged that another bloc within the PDP had engaged in talks with the ADC leadership. The discussions were said to be part of broader consultations aimed at building a united front ahead of 2027.
However, the spokesman of the Wike-backed faction, Ini Ememobong, downplayed the reported engagement. He described it as part of an ongoing internal process and insisted it does not represent the official position of the party.
According to him, any legitimate decision on alliances must follow due process and be endorsed by recognized party structures. He maintained that no such approval has been given.
