The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Sokoto has dismissed the petition filed against the victory of Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sa’idu Umar.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Umar had challenged Aliyu’s victory on the grounds that his deputy, Idris Gobir, did not possess the required educational qualification to contest the election and that there were electoral irregularities.
However, in its ruling on Saturday, the 3-member panel of justices, led by Justice Huruna Mshelia, held that Umar failed to prove his allegations beyond reasonable doubt.
