Imo governorship election: Gov Hope Uzodimma vows to arrest, prosecute Labour Party candidate

Governor of Imo state, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has vowed to arrest and prosecute the Labour Party governorship candidate in the November 11, 2023 governorship election, Senator Athan Achonu, before the electoral contest.

The governor made the vow while he was endorsed by a group at an event organised by the Imo Social Contract Group led by Dr Fabian Ekwueme.

According to the governor, the Labour Party candidate went and fraudulently obtained a court order certifying that he had built primary healthcare facilities in the 27 local government areas of the state and claimed millions of dollars, lamenting that the money he siphoned was being deducted at source from Imo allocation by the federal government.

He further described the act as anti-developmental, misleading and criminal punishable by law.

However, in a swift reaction, the Director, Media and Publicity of Senator Athan Achonu Governorship Campaign Council, Chibuikem Diala, said that the governor may have hallucinated when he made the statement.

According to Diala, Senator Achonu did over 70% of the job in 774 local government areas of the country.

He added that the senator initiated the contract in 2006 when he was representing Imo North (Okigwe zone)in the Senate, adding that it was an ALGON-funded contract approved by the then federal government.

He further said the facilities were visible and functional in Owerri Municipal, Isu local governments and even in Omuma, the governor’s hometown.
