The mass wedding organised by Kano State Government for about 1,800 intending couples has kicked off in grand style.
Politics Nigeria earlier reported that the Kano State Government had set aside the sum of N854 million for the event.
The Kano State Hisbah Board had also procured furnitures and food items for the couples.
“Each bride will receive a set of bed, mattress, and pillows, as well as N20,000 to start up a business,” said Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, the Commander-General of the board.
“Some philanthropists have pledged to contribute their quota to ensure the success of the wedding.
“1,800 couples will benefit from the gesture, which would go a long way in curtailing societal vices and poverty in the society, as many marriages were being postponed due to the inability of parents to sponsor the wedding,” he added.
