An incident in Bauchi has led to the arrest of Yakubu Adamu from Kumbi village, Kirfi Local Government, for fatally stabbing his younger brother, Yayaji Abubakar, reportedly to inherit his motorcycle.
The state Police command confirmed this tragedy in a statement by its spokesperson, Superintendent Ahmed Wakil, on Friday.
Wakil detailed that the suspect not only admitted to the offence but also disclosed his involvement in motorcycle theft activities since 2020.
The police statement revealed the harrowing incident: “On October 13, at about 7:30 p.m., one Usman Mohammad reported a case at the Divisional Headquarters, Kirfi. He narrated that Yakubu Adamu, armed with a sharp knife, attacked his younger brother, Yayaji Abubakar, robbing him of his red Bajaj motorcycle with registration number 526-OG.”
The victim suffered severe injuries from multiple stab wounds, succumbing to these wounds at the General Hospital Alkaleri, where he was declared dead by a medical professional.
The police swiftly arrested the perpetrator and commenced interrogations. During questioning, the suspect not only confessed to the crime but also revealed his involvement in motorcycle theft since 2020, collaborating with an accomplice named Auwalu.
The suspect allegedly sold a red Bajaj motorcycle stolen in 2020 for N70,000 and shared the proceeds with his partner in crime.
The police said investigations are ongoing, and once completed, the suspect will face legal charges.
