Former Senator Shehu Sani Backs Labour’s Strike Action Over Ajaero’s Assault

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has expressed support for the nationwide strike action declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union of Nigeria (TUC) in response to the brutalisation of NLC President Joe Ajaero by suspected political thugs in Owerri, Imo State last week.

Sani, in a post on his official social media handle, applauded the organised labour’s decision to embark on the strike, describing it as a justifiable response to the attack on their leader.

“No responsible trade union will fold its arms and see its leaders brutalised without a massive response,” he wrote. “The strike action will send a clear message to those who want to toe this path.”

Sani also condemned the use of political thugs to disrupt protests and maltreat protesters, referencing the attack on Abuja EndSARS organisers at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) headquarters.

“Using political thugs to disrupt protests and maltreat protesters is unacceptable,” he stated. “The Abuja EndSARS organisers can remember how they were attacked at CBN Headquarters.”

Ajaero was attacked during a union protest in Owerri.
