IGP orders investigation into killing of police inspector by truck driver

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu has ordered an investigation into the killing of a police inspector, Habila Mangai by a truck driver in Imo State.
Mangai, an Inspector attached to the Isiala Mbano Division of the Nigeria Police Force was killed by a Mack truck driven by one Chisom Ajah along the Owerri-Okigwe Road.
The police in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid said the Mangai was on a lawful stop-and-search duty when the incident occurred.
According to Placid, the late inspector was immediately evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel on the ground.
“His remains have since been deposited at the hospital mortuary. The driver of the vehicle and the truck have been taken into custody and handed over to the State Motor Traffic Department (SMTD), Owerri, for detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Placid said.
He also noted that the IGP while commiserating with Mangai’s family, his colleagues, and the Imo State Police Command has also assured that the sacrifice of the deceased will not be in vain.
“The Nigeria Police Force assures the public that a thorough investigation has been instituted to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, and that justice will be duly served in accordance with the law.
“The Force also urges motorists to exercise caution, obey traffic regulations, and maintain due care, particularly around police operational checkpoints and duty posts,” Placid added.
