JUST IN: Governor Fubara Reshuffles Management Staff of Rivers State House of Assembly

The Rivers State Government has announced a major reshuffling of the management staff of the State House of Assembly.

The confidential circular marked A238/VOL.XV(15)/81 was dated November 20, 2023, and signed by the Head of Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke.

The reshuffling comes amidst the current political crisis in the state, which has led to a split in the legislative arm of the government. Recall that earlier in the week, members loyal to both factions of Edison Ehie and Martins Amaewhule allegedly held separate sittings at different locations. This led to a court order suspending the sittings of both factions. While Ehie is loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Amaewhule is loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike.

Dr. Nwaeke noted in the circular that the development has affected some postings in the state’s civil service.

The memo titled “Senior Staff Posting” lists those affected as follows:

Mr. Emeka Amadi, Clerk of the Rivers State House of Assembly, has been deployed to the Scholarship Board.
Mr. Calistus Ojirika, Deputy Clerk and Head of Legislative Department in the House of Assembly, has been posted to the Readers Project.
Mr. Georgewill Otto, an Assistant Director in the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, has been moved to the Rivers State Small Town and Rural Water Supply Agency.

The memo states that the postings take immediate effect and further directs the affected officers to complete handover procedures to the most senior officers in their respective departments. Their service records are expected to be moved to the offices of their new postings.
