Abdulrasheed Maina: Why pensioners should not celebrate yet – Shehu Sani

Amid the punishment passed on Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of the now-defunct Pension Reformed Task Team, Shehu Sani, senator who represented Kaduna central, says “the pensioners should not cheer yet”.

Sani noted the huge debt Maina’s corrupt practice has put the Nigerian government in, saying it “can’t be paid back before 2023”. The Muhammadu Buhari administration will leave office in 2023.

“The pensioners should not cheer yet because of Maina; N8.29 trillion has been withdrawn from their N12.9trillion by the FG, and can’t be paid back before 2023,” Sani wrote on his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that a Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday sentenced Maina to eight years imprisonment. He was convicted after he was found guilty of money laundering.

In a judgement delivered by Justice Okon Abang, the court held that the prosecutor, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has produced essential evidence through witnesses to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Maina is guilty of money laundering in the sum of N171,099,000.
