On Monday, November 4, the governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, swore in the newly elected 17 Local Government chairmen who emerged victorious from the Saturday, LG polls in the state.
The governor during the swearing exercise urged the new chairmen to ensure the run their various LGAs with a vision of “Abia first” before any other agenda.
He also urged the officers to ensure they work for the socio-economic transformation of people of Abia state from their various LGAs.
According to Otti, it is important for the LG chairmen to solve basic problems facing the people of communities in the LGAs and ensure their mandate is people-oriented.
He said, “As I had also said, your task is to solve the basic problems that have bedevilled our people in the various communities for ages. Access to water, basic health and education services, effective maintenance of Truck C roads and quick response to security threats in your local communities should rank very high in your order of priorities.”
He added that the people of Abia State should able to feel the impact of the LGA chairmen in the various communities especially the women and youths.
“Our people should be able to see the impact of your leadership in the next six months through measurable improvements in the living conditions of the people, especially women, youths and the vulnerable in the various localities,” Otti said.
