The Accord Party (AP) has expelled its former presidential candidate, Christopher Imumolen, following accusations of gross misconduct.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) passed the resolution during a meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, November 20.
Imumolen, who led the party in the 2023 presidential election, was removed alongside seven state chairpersons, including Lanre Ogundare of Lagos and Surajo Ibrahim of Zamfara.
In total, 10 individuals, including former chairpersons from Ekiti, Ondo, and Yobe states, were dismissed for similar charges.
A communiqué issued after the meeting stated that the NEC endorsed the disciplinary measures based on findings from a seven-member committee.
The committee’s investigation highlighted violations of the party’s constitution, particularly breaches related to factionalism, anti-party activities, and bringing the party into disrepute.
“The NEC unanimously approved and endorsed the disciplinary measures against some members for gross misconduct,” the communiqué read, noting that these actions had caused disaffection and undermined party unity.
The NEC emphasized the importance of adhering to the party’s constitution, underscoring the need for decorum to avoid disorder.
The committee also passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of Maxwell Mgbudem, urging him to continue strengthening the party’s foundation.
“The party is committed to rebuilding, rebranding, and strengthening itself to meet the needs and expectations of Nigerians,” the communiqué added.
It also announced the commencement of a massive membership drive to reinforce the party’s influence in the democratic process.
