The Accord Party, Rivers State chapter, has written the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) asking it to postpone Saturday’s election pending when Chukwudi Ogbonna, the party’s candidate for Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni constituency for Rivers State House of Assembly, is freed.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that some unknown gunmen on Monday night kidnapped the Accord Party state assembly candidate for ONELGA Constituency II near Port Harcourt when the criminals forced him to stop and whisked him away with his car.
Speaking during a protest at Mgbede in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (LGA), the Chairman of Accord Party, Nwachukwu Justice, said it would be unfair for INEC to conduct the March 18 election with their party’s candidate still missing.
“Election is just two days away and our candidate is still in the den of his abductors. As a party we are calling on the abductors to please release him to us,” Justice said.
“We are calling on security agents to scale up efforts to ensure his safe release before the day of the election.
“We have written INEC that in the event where our candidate is not released until the day of the election that the election for ONELGA Constituency 2 should be suspended.”
