Comrade Deji Adeyanju, a human rights lawyer, has accused Governor Seyi Makinde of pushing to wrest control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to work for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
Adeyanji said the Oyo governor’s recent political battles with Wike is not aimed at strengthening the opposition ahead of the 2027 general election.
Adeyanju expressed the view in a Facebook post reacting to Makinde’s comments during a live media chat in Ibadan on Tuesday.
During the interaction, Makinde launched a political and personal attack on Wike and said he would not support Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
The Oyo governor accused the FCT minister of working to weaken the PDP from within.
Makinde said while Wike is free to support Tinubu, he has chosen not to and believes individuals should be allowed to make their own political choices.
However, Adeyanju said Makinde’s ambition to take over the PDP was not driven by altruism.
“My take is that Seyi Makinde is working with Tinubu for second term. Only naive people who don’t understand politics will fall for his tricks.
“My opinion is that he wants to take over the structure of PDP from Wike so that he can enjoy the perks Wike is currently enjoying in 2027.
“Everyone who is serious about opposing Tinubu should be in African Democratic Congress by now not trying to divide opposition votes like they foolishly did in 2023,” he said.
