Activists storm US Embassy, demand visa ban on ex-NNPC Group CEO

Some professionals and activists have stormed the United States of America Embassy in Abuja to demand a visa ban on the immediate Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari.

The protesters in their numbers said the ban should be placed on Kyari over allegations of financial infractions by the former NNPCL GCEO during his time in office.

According to the protesters under the aegis of the Young Professionals Forum of Nigeria, Kyari is alleged to have been involved in the misappropriation of funds meant for refinery repairs.

In a petition submitted to the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard M. Mills Jr., the protesters urged the US to ensure that Kyari does not set foot into the country with the investigation ongoing.

The leader of the group, Sambari Benjamin said, “Mr. Mele Kolo Kyari is central to ongoing investigations into grand corruption and abuse of office, misappropriation of funds.”
