The Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has requested the Adamawa State Commandant of the Corps, Muhammad Bello, to appear at the Corps’ National Headquarters to explain his role in the recently concluded state election.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the move comes after the Corps was accused of being complicit in the controversial supplementary election, along with other security agencies.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Corps spokesman, Commandant Olusola Odumosu, clarified that the CG’s summons is in response to the allegations of the Corps’ involvement in the political controversy surrounding the Adamawa State governorship election.
The CG has directed the State Commandant to hand over affairs of the Command to his immediate subordinate to allow him time to provide an explanation of his role in the exercise.
The NSCDC’s Commandant General emphasized that the organization is non-partisan and non-political, and will not tolerate the involvement of any of its personnel or formations in political controversies.
The statement reads: “I have summoned the State Commandant to National Headquarters to face the management team and explain himself in clear terms.
“We are known for our integrity, neutrality and non-partisanship in election matters, that is why we will not take the case of Adamawa lightly.
“I have ordered him to hand over the Command to his immediate deputy because his role in the rerun election is currently being investigated and if he is found culpable, then he will have himself to blame,” the CG said.
The controversy arose after the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Commission (INEC) declared Aisha Binani Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the governorship election in Adamawa, despite the remaining LGA results not being announced.
