ADC Chieftain Claims Trump Convinced Nigerian Govt Not Ready to Tackle Insecurity

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has claimed that United States President, Donald Trump, is convinced that the Nigerian government is not serious about tackling insecurity in the country.

Speaking during an interview on Friday, the ADC chieftain, Momodu, urged the Federal Government to address the issues raised by Trump rather than dismiss them.

He lamented the persistent killings by armed groups and called on security agencies to identify and eliminate criminal networks responsible for ongoing violence.

“The videos of President Trump that I have watched indicate that this is beyond mere diplomatic caution. I believe he is convinced by the intelligence reports he has received,” Momodu said.

“He is convinced that the Nigerian government is not serious; he is convinced that we are not ready; he is convinced that we are trying to buy time and return to our usual hanky-panky.”

Trump had, last Saturday, directed the Pentagon to draw up potential military action plans in Nigeria, a day after warning that Christianity was facing “an existential threat” in Africa’s most populous nation.

In a post, Trump stated that if Nigerian authorities fail to curb killings across the country, the United States could launch a swift military strike, saying the response would be “fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our cherished Christians.”

He reiterated the threat of possible US military intervention over alleged targeted killings of Christians.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has pledged his administration’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation and intensifying the fight against terrorism and organised criminality across Nigeria.
